Art Discussion Meeting, Thursday, August 1, 2019

Thanks to Jim & Tim for moderating the meeting today

The topic today was composition

Susan's favorite book on Composition is by Albert Handell

Mike recently practiced composition at the Japanese Gardens

Sharman is new and wants to learn more about outdoor painting

Renita is remodeling her house (but will paint soon)

Dotty broke a compositional rule here!

...and she shares a recent painting

Phil is working on composition

Marie shows a recent painting of school children

Becky is working on a commissioned piece

Tom thinks about 3-5 big shapes

Ken says: The focal point is important to me

Geri remembers what she learned in art school and applies it to current work

Kathy shows a recent painting

Kathy likes to put an emphasis on showing emotion

Diana shares her acetate and dry erase markers system

Diana uses this system in teaching her students about composition

Jim likes Edgar Payne's book on Composition

Jim shows a study in gouache of the food carts

...and a second gouache study of trees

Greg says different and unpredictable shapes are key
