Online Gallery Notes April 30, 2020

William E. Elston: I was sent this image of a painting that I did in 1983, by a person who had recently been gifted the work by her mother. The painting is of Spokane artist Charlie Palmer and his dog Buffy, behind his house on Ash, north of Gonzaga University. I haven't seen the painting since it was sold, shortly after it was completed. Charlie & Buffy, oil on canvas, size unknown (approx. 40 x 30 inches), copyright ©1983

Thomas Kitts: Dreaming of Central Oregon during the quarantine... Pauline Falls, Central ORoil on linen, en plein air

Phil Alexander: Path to the River"   8x10 oil on canvas.  I just wanted to get outside from Covid Captivity indoors.  (My wife would be happy to see me taking this walk too!) Hope to see you all sometime soon.

Regina Atwood:  no text

Jeanie Bates: Yes, I've been painting. Morning Swim In Laurelhurst Park, 24 X 30.

Celeste Bergin: I painted this plein air "simply"in the Park blocks downtown. Last Sunday I drew my self portrait while looking into a mirror. At the same time I was listening to David Leffel give a painting demo on facebook.  I’m certainly no David Leffel, but he influenced me to draw this providing only the most important details. I painted this floral from life this week.

Robin Berry:  I was at a metro area near the river last evening. Tried to finish in the garage today - sun/rain/wind blowing in the door. Love Spring!

Marti Brandtner: simple lazy days! Not too sure on names yet but Jersy Girl and Look Ma... No Hands are the names for the moment, unless we can come up with something better!! These are paintings from a vacation in Enterprise where my husband and I stopped to have breakfast and came out to a parade! Love these good memories that take back to good times. 11 x 14 Acrylic

C Jess DesRuisseaux: North Umpqua

Serena Dinsmore:  Husband Dean patiently modeling. Just give him a book.

Leslie Elder: This is a painting I just completed for a commission for a Rabbi in town. The couple were his grandparents. They were originally from Austria and Hungary and were both holocaust survivors pf WW!!. Most of their families perished in Nazi work camps or prison camps. They were among the few who survived. They immigrated to the US where they eventually became successful in business but always tried to give back to their community.  The photo originally contained other people so I changed it a bit. I tried to really
bring out their characters rather than just copy the photo. It's useful to get background info about the personalities and lives of your subjects if you don't meet them in person so you can project that in the portrait.

Sharman Francis: “Childhood Haunt”

Lisa Gilbert: “Simply” My first post

Geri Graley: Still enjoying practicing abstracts - it helps to blow the cobwebs out of my brain 😁, just focusing on shape, line, texture, the feel of the paint & drawing tools! It also gives me a chuckle at times. Watcher in the Wheelhouse”, mixed media, 7x9”.

Donna Sires: My daughter challenged me to paint this lightening picture. Not sure I'm 100% done with it yet.

Linda Sprau: “St Helens Serenity” acrylic on canvas

Donna Stevens: The topic: Simply.   This painting was simply stuck for about 6 or 7 weeks. Earlier this week, while sitting in the “thinking chair” and pondering what the next step should be, a solution suddenly presented itself. It was so simple ... put some background color within the blocked shape of the main tree ... et voila! ... the tree comes forward. A few more touches, some details on the tree. C’est fini!

Joanne Thorpe: Hi all. I haven’t been painting much this week. Lots of yard work and recipes to try. I managed to get in one chicken painting. It was a challenge to get all that greenery to read well. Thinking of names now. Opposites Attract? On the Fence? Lol. I’ll take any suggestions.

Kathy Towne: Just finished this oil on canvas. 18x24. Called “Winter Light.” I painted from a photo reference my granddaughter Finley took over New Year’s ‘this year.

Loretta Unger:  Sometimes I’m told my paintings are like a dream and I like that comparison, because, to me, painting is exactly like being in a dream.
