Online Gallery Notes, May 21, 2020

Yong Hong Zhong: 1. Looking for an interesting angle to paint my neighbor's house. 2. Rohdodendrons are blooming around my yard. 3. An alleyway near downtown Lake Oswego.

Regina Atwood:  A rainy grey day, painted from my garage looking out past the driveway. A different type of being “out in the field”! I haven’t fussed with this at all in my studio which is unusual for me.  But who knows, I may go back in to tweak  a bit.  :)

Celeste Bergin: 1. “How sweet to be a Cloud. Floating in the Blue” (– A. A. Milne) 2. I painted this from the car with gouache. It was on a road behind the way cool Colwood Golf Course. 3. Joanne gave me some fresh flowers and I painted them today.

Marti Brandtner: 1. Finished and on it's way to it's new home.  Now to start another painting! So lucky we like to paint and draw. 2. Nothing better than getting dragged by your dog! Ozzie and Henry

Tedd Chilless: “Flowers for Inspiration” oil, 12”x 16” During these times I want to share color and gratitude for all those people working.

Stephanie Cissna: Not painting, but sketching something "cool": black leather jacket, in pencil and ink markers. My black leather jacket is from San Francisco 1980's with big shoulders, super cool at the time. Marlon Brando, motorcycles, Madonna, and me! (?)

Paul Clendenin:  “Moonglow” is, of course, imaginary.  In the Multnomah falls image, I have attempted to merge a number of photo images to arrive at this unique perspective of the falls, the lodge, and the historic scenic hwy.  While these do exist in similar relationship, this scene would probably never be seen in real life.

Hilarie Couture: I just loved composing and painting this one and loved her socks.. I just thought she looked like a pretty cool chick!

Tom Daniels: 1. Good to get out a little today. 2. At Vancouver Lake park Sunday 3. The beach Tuesday at Vancouver Lake.

Kathy D Allegri: 1. “My Pathway” Watercolor 2. 20 May 2020: "Blue Thrill," Watercolor 8" x 13.5"

Serena Dinsmore:  Drawing of a student who looked 'cool' to me.

Leslie Elder: Almost finished with this commission. Painted from an extremely faded photo from the 70's. A good excuse to do a monochromatic painting. I soooo love the bouffant hairstyle! I just had to crank the Aretha Franklin up while painting this!

Steve Ewoldt: A little Nebraska back on the canvas. (14x20 oil)

Sharman Frances:  no text

Lisa Gilbert: Cool sunset at Mount Hood

Geri Graley: Keeping “cool” on the boardwalk! Drawn from the Sktchy App last summer. Graphite on paper, 6x9”.

Sandy Hanis: Flowers help me get through the gray days.

Paula Hansen:  A recent plein air pastel at a farm close to my home, and a study from Za’s class this week on portraits.

Dotty Hawthorne: This is a pastel painting "Elena's Daydreams" of my teenage granddaughter. It started with a photo I took of her in a bay window, and took me several years to decide how to put it together.

Blaine Johnson:  1-4 no text.  5. I’m still giggling. This is a strange painting. It was commissioned as a gift. The recipient’s name is Elisabeth. She is from Switzerland (and those are edelweiss flowers), but she also LOVES New Zealand - thus the kiwi. I’m assured she will love it... but I gotta say... I ain’t never thought I’d paint somethin’ like this.

Tara Kemp: "Tito in a Red Bandana", 16 x 20", oil on canvas. #cool

Joanne Kollman: 1. “COOL” red dominant split complementary 2.“COOL” grey Wednesday 3. “COOL” light painting in progress 9x12”

Bhavani Krishnan:  Paintings for the prompt cool. I've been in the mood for the dark and moody lately. Can you tell?

Susan Kuznitsky:  Cool clouds, pastel 6 x 12

Ken Mazzochi:  Painted during my surreal period. At the time I thought it was the coolest.

Mary McNeil: The COOL part of this was the demo/class through OSA with Lisa Mann last Thursday using oil and cold wax. Fun & different, trying a little abstract.

Kathleen Mitchell: 1-3  I decided to paint my friends' favorite flowers as gifts when we were finally able to be together again in person. 4. Today's painting is a watercolor I did of a (cool) car I found in a wide spot in the road on the way to Yellowstone 5. This was done around Memorial Day. I hope no one is offended by flower pots on our flag. It was set up with respect, appreciation and honor in our hearts.

Lisa Marshall:  This is Sabino Canyon just outside Tucson. A beautiful place to hike. Really gorgeous when the snow melt happens off of Mt. Lemon.

Mike Porter: 1. From my sketchbook of a few years ago when we were traveling through the south of France and stayed overnight at Carcassonne. I was sketching this and a French lady came up to watch. In my halting French and her halting English, I discovered that she was an art teacher! I received a favorable critique. While this was going on, a bevy of Chinese tourists were snapping photos of me at work. 2. This is the view out of our B&B when we stayed in north Wales, in Conwy. That's the castle walls on the opposite hill from where we stayed. Lovely town. Wales is a really nice place to tour around and explore. Very scenic.

Donna Sanson: I did this watercolor painting when my daughter was ten years old. She was very active in gymnastics at the time and I took a photo of her laying across a set of bars at a local playground. I substituted ribbon for the metal bars and suspended her from a tied bow held together with a large pin. The title of this painting is "Loosening Apron Strings And Other Ties That Bind." It was a reminder to me that she needed to be her own person, and an assurance to her that I would always be there when she needed me. I am the pin. I've always thought this was a "cool" painting.

Eunice Sause:  The cool coast

Jeffrey Scherer: Waiting in the weeds... (oil on board)

Raphael Schnepf: Koa Finished 8" x 6" oil on birch panel.

George Schweser: 1 & 2 These sketches were done with a group of graphic designers. 3.Here’s a drawing I did Saturday with the Urban Sketchers Virtual Session. The challenge was to use a medium you wouldn’t normally use. I chose markers , 6x9 on Bristol board.

Jessi Sevy: This painting was done intended for the 200x200 show last year.

Dianna Shyne: 1. This painting, Americana" 18" x 24" was another from the series of old fishing shacks. This one was included in Acrylic Works by Northlight. 2. "Latch". 14" x 11" acrylic on cradled wood. I did a large series of these close ups from old fishing shacks in North Rustico Prince Edward Island Canada. 3. My husband, Michael Gotz (guitar) and Keith Lowe (bass) playing their duo gig in Bellevue WA. 4. "Dinger's Dance" 20" x 20" acrylic. All the life in our garden is a treasure. We named this little hummingbird "Dinger". I think it's first name was Hum.

Donna Sires: This is a painting I did from a photo I took along a creek in Yellowstone. "Meadow in the Mist"

Nancy Smith-Klos:  1.Bird Refuge California oil on 12 x 12" board 2. Sauvie Island Cows oil on 12" x 24" canvas

Linda Sprau: “Hellebores” acrylic on canvas

Sarah Stroud:  Slow but steady progress on this one. Stopped for a week due to pandemic-related stress, but Joanne Thorpe helped me through!! Happy to be back painting.

Jim Syfert:  1. “Cool” Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach. From a photo I took on a very cool but clear day in February 2018. The next day there was snow on the beach. 2. Another cool day in the Pacific NW so what better way to brighten up then to paint orange. 11x14 oil. Mandarin Sunflowers.
Stay safe and healthy. 3. 6x6 oil. Painting from a photo of a river in Southern Oregon, if you have even tried to swim in any of these rivers, you know they are “cool”.

Joanne Thorpe: Struggling a bit this week with these two. Think I like rusty old cars better. The other is the Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Kathy Towne: 1. "Early Morning Walk" 12x16 oil on canvas. 2. “Carmel Coast” painted from a photo taken at a Plein air workshop with Jim Wodark in September. 12x16” oil on canvas. 3. “Garden at Domaine Serene” 12x16”oil on canvas.
