Online Gallery Notes, May 7, 2020

Chris Rectenwald: "Dramatic". Light vs. dark, warm vs. cool, super power vs. young and vulnerable / Eric's house with a pink petal carpet.

Celeste Bergin:  I painted this nocturne plein air in Hood River. I painted it so fast and I couldn’t see much of what I was doing. I was surprised when I looked at it later. It's one of my favorite on site paintings. 2. When I learned that Humphrey Bogart’s discarded wife (Mayo Methot) had lived above Fat City Cafe I painted this “noir” type painting about her. I like to think that living her life out in "our" beloved Multnomah Village was a positive decision. 3. Value study from a film still.

Regina Atwood:  A recent painting from an area in Maui where I love to walk and see the sunset. The trees were gently blowing and I was taking lots of pictures to capture the setting sun backing silhouetted trees. I have painted this sunset twice now.  Softest Glow 11  30x24 oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas.

Annie Cannon: I didn't see the theme word until now, so their drama will be up to the observer! 1. Color version trees study 2. Interview with a blackberry bush 3. stained glass pillowsHi, all -- I miss hearing your laughter and wisdom!

Tedd Chilless: Wild Wild SouthWest Series 050220-1 6”x6” oil In this series of small paintings I want to explore the southwestern states. I am attempting to capture my emotional response to color, scale and proportions of the landscape.

Stephanie Cissna: Dramatic - Big Splash at Cape Disappointment. Big wave, little lighthouse, dramatic contrast. From a photo by Karri Stewie.

Mark Ivan Cole: Physical distancing proved to be pretty easy when we just pulled off the road and had some lunch. After lunch, we decided to stay put.  Ping read a book while I painted the view with my DIY Intense plein air kit. I'm kinda out of practice, but was able to get a reasonable facsimile of the scene. Mt. Hood was glorious yesterday

Bets Cole: Cortona Loggi 16” x 12” Gouache Cortona Italy 2020

Sheila Corcoran: I am submitting two paintings. The first one, " Surprise ",  is inspired by a stop at Camp 18, on the way to the coast last Summer.   As I was leaving the restaurant , I saw the cat sleeping in the birdfeeder , so I took a photo !  It was just too special of a moment to pass up ! The second painting is inspired by a visit to Willamette Vineyards last Summer . You know, remember the old days when we went places and ate food and drank wine in large rooms where many people gathered !!    I walked out onto the deck of their beautiful building and this scene spread before me !  I knew this needed to be a painting, so I took the photo for reference.

Hilarie Couture: Drama. Tough pick. Lots of Drama to choose from my work 16x16 oil

Kathy D Allegri:  4 May 2020 “Blue Orchids” Watercolor 8”x10”

Tom Daniels: a. A couple of seated fisherman/ Just before the clouds rolled in

Serena Dinsmore:  Dramatic flicker damage repair to the siding.

Lisa Gilbert: This is from a photograph of my sweet kitty cat, in the middle of a yawn. She’s not really scary, just trying to be dramatic! / sunflower

Geri Graley: No Middle Name”, mixed media, 7x9”

Carol Hansen: Star Island Laundry Day,16x20, painted from a photo I took on a trip to New England in 2018.

Tara Kemp: Heceta Sunset 20x10 oil on canvas

Joanne Kollman: “dramatic” painting in progress and a couple from the past 2 years.

Bhavani Krishnan:  For the prompt dramatic

Susan Kuznitsky: ‘Attitude’ pastel 11x14 - painted this from a photo of my nephew on Spring Break last year. This year he is a senior and had to miss his spring break trip as well as all the end of high school stuff. Different world..

Robin Laughlin: played with acrylics and lines at an e-workshop this past weekend. Turns out loose is very hard these days, more so that usual. Fascinating. Dramatic-but maybe only inside my head 😉.

Paul Lockhart: Dramatic Haystack Rock 19.5"x 25.5" Sennelier oil pastels on Cason 98lb black Mi- Teintes paper

Lisa Moss Marshall:  Self portrait in the time of Coronavirus. Lisa Marshall.

Ken Mazzochi:  I'm so grateful to now have an art studio space to work in. This is one of 4 paintings that I'm working on, a bit dramatic. I've completed 6 weeks of radiation and healing from skin burn. Yay, miss you all.💚

Scott McAllister: no text

Dave McBride: GRIT, Brett Favre holds the record for consecutive starts at 297 plus 508 TDs

Debra Renard: "drama" Watercolor 1/4 sheet on Arches

Donna Sanson: - (Drama) This mixed media abstract, "Twittering in Rome," was inspired by a personal photo and a workshop by watercolor artist John Salminem. He lectured on good design - oblique, irregular, and unexpected. The passion and vitality of the Italian people was always present in the city, even in the narrowest streets and tiniest spaces. I chose to exaggerate everything my senses experienced.

Raphael Schnepf: Down River 6"x6" gouache on illustration board. / Rainier Meadow 8" x 10" gouache on illustration board.

George Schweser: Here is a sketch I did of my studio with the Urban Sketchers virtual sketch session on Saturday . It’s 6x9 on Bristol board ,pencil . Yes, those are plaster casts of an eye, ear and nose . The values make it sort of dramatic .

Jessi Sevy: Attended a remote model painting session. Lighting was a bit warm and high contrast , so it kind of fits the prompt "Dramatic"  / A little landscape study

Dianna Shyne:  I did a live zoom demo on my porch yesterday for Winslow Art Center. The sun was in and out, but this is my "Porch Air" painting. "First Azalias" 20" x16" acrylic. / Today's one hour Garden Painting "Chive Flowers". 12" x 12"
Acrylic.

Nancy Smith-Klos:  "Anna" ( in our Matisse setting) Studio 30-days gone by...! Anna came home for my birthday this past Sunday. What a blessing to have her home for May. In honor of her visit, here is my entry for this week! Oil on 24 x 36" canvas / Red Roses Oil on 10 x 10" canvas

Jim Syfert:  subject: dramatic. Busy week, lots of on-line classes, working on several things to hopefully better tell the story. /  Studio isolation, purchased some flowers for Sandi for Mom’s day coming up and decided to paint a still life of them. 9x12 oil.
Stay safe and healthy!

Harley Talkington: “Dusk Drama.” Painted in pastels from a photo, one of many I have taken , capturing a moment in the wonderful dramatic skies at this site near Blanton and Cornelius Pass in Beaverton/Hillsboro. This spot is to become South Hillsboro, soon to be the site of Oregon’s largest planned community. Today I can still get nearly a 360 view. Come on a color-strewn sunset evening and capture it before it’s gone!

Joanne Thorpe: Hi all. Here is one dramatic car and one not so dramatic. Lol. Still enjoying those 8 x 8 panels.

Kathy Towne: “Drive in Eindhoven” oil on canvas 16x20 using palette knife.  / Happy Friday everyone! A few years ago, my husband and I went on a backpack with our soon to be son in law and two of our daughters. This painting depicts the beauty of those granite mountains and the water reflections. It was painted from a photo taken on our descent. Even though I got severe altitude sickness, the beauty surrounding me has given me the desire to return, this time with my painting supplies on my back so I can capture the beauty LIVE!! /
I enjoyed painting this scene using photos from a few past trips and combining them for this composition. Makes me want to travel somewhere far away! It’s a 12x16” oil on stretched canvas. / Day 1 of painting challenge. Just finished this from a backpack trip we took a few years ago in the Sierras. 12x16” oil on canvas.

Loretta Unger: This painting is possibly my most dramatic painting, “Waterlilies”

Za Vue:  The model in our life painting session wore an old fashioned wedding dress.

Bonny Wagoner: For the drama theme - it was more on my end. I was sorting my art supplies and noticed I have a lot of cold press watercolor paper. Ever so temporarily I failed to think it through before beginning this image. Half way through I was wondering what in the world was I thinking - it’s next to impossible to do the detail I want on textured paper. This isn’t finished but there’s no way I can get it done by noon given the uphill battle I made for myself with the wrong paper selection for this painting. It’s been like drama on the high seas painting this one. I am writing a note to myself to put with the paper to save myself from another repeated lesson.

Mary Weil: Painted from my photo taken from back of motorhome while fishing on Siletz River a few years ago. I didn't really know how to paint Cirrrus clouds (still don't) as was pointed out by my instructor at the time - since I had forged ahead between classes :/
Even so ...... It's still one of my favorites .....  I think because it was so fun and  exciting then.

Tim Young: 5x7 acrylic. Morning / 12x16 oil on Multimedia Artboards Buzzz

Yong Hong Zhong: Somewhere near downtown Portland Oregon. Can you identify my location? / In Chinese art, the Four Gentlemen refers to four plants: bamboo, plum blossom, orchid, and chrysanthemum.

Vicki Zimmerman:  The dramatic painting i was working on for this week fizzled. Therefore I am posting an older one of the Tilikum Bridge at night. The other two paintings are from this weeks studio efforts; "Rainy Day Ferns" and "Sauvie Island Memory"
