Online Gallery Notes, March 19,2020

Yong:  Daffodils are popping up everywhere around my neighborhood.

Bhavani: So glad I can participate in this virtual meeting 🙂

Joanne K: I have been making over some paintings left for dead. I love my green vase, we found while wandering in a Lincoln City Antique shop before the sale of the Troy Artist Studio building. I set up the same pose with pink roses, this time in my living room. The red In the early painting was too much, too raw and too primary. The way I see and paint has changed. I find these exercises in problem solving a good way to push color, simplify design and just experiment; perhaps I end up with a better painting. In the end I know the painting will be different. It will be about my response to the subject in this moment. I have nothing to lose. Same path, different journey.

Jeanie: This is a piece I wouldn't bring to meetings. Its 30 X 40 and nearly complete.

Celeste: I’ve been looking at paintings by Harvey Dunn. I feel very inspired by his work which has a lot to do with farm life. I painted an acrylic value study in kind of a Harvey Dunn style. The woman in the painting takes a moment to really drink in the beauty of a wide-open place. I might paint a color version in oil. I am also showing my plein air painting that I painted for the “lucky” Friday the 13th paint out. There were only 3 of us painting. It was freezing cold and raining. It seems strange to say, but I really enjoyed it. lol (thanks, Jim)

Chris: I attended Susan Kuznitsky's pastel workshop last Sunday at OSA. The room was so bright with sunlight streaming through the windows. We had lots of space between us in the large room to feel safe. Lovely music was playing. Lots of hand sanitizer.
Susan is a wonderful, smart, gifted teacher. She demonstrated each step during the morning. In the afternoon we painted. It was a wonderful escape from our current situation. Everyone left happy. Here is my finished piece.

Tom D: Low lying land

Geri: Good morning fellow AllaPrima-ers! 💕. I want to share my most recent painting: “Almost Perfect”, acrylic on cradled board, 8x8”. (Elinore’s happy with her perfect ‘Bumper Bangs’, but Jeepers, her ‘Victory Roll’ is beginning to become unsprung!). 💋💋

Karen: I don't get to come to meetings, but I always enjoy seeing everyone's work! I came out to one plein air even last year... Anyway, here is my most recent painting. 8x10 acrylic on canvas "Summer Color"

Harley: Tim’s Towhee. 8x10. Soft pastels. This is my 3rd bird painting thanks to the wandering artist/photographer. My flock salutes you, Tim Young!

Robin: so glad I can finally join the Thursday meetings! Here’s my 8x10 oil on smooth panel (dang that was hard!) from last Sunday. We went to a socially distant spot off Skyline, part of the Mt Calvary Cemetery. It was sooo cold! My paint kept getting thick, but it was great to turn off my worried mind for an hour or so. The cold made me NOT question anything but just go. I like when that happens! I am now on mandatory work from home, but hope to get out again this weekend.

Kristie: Poured concentrated watercolor background with salt and leaves on gesso board. “I Believe”

Dianna: A few little paintings I did this weekend. Before I got the flu. (Editor's Note: feel better soon, Dianna)!

Jim: Some of this last weeks paint efforts. The last one is a closeup of a commission piece I am working on but don’t want to show the entire piece, this is just a small portion of the larger painting.

Joanne T: I’ve been very busy with these two. The chicken is from Tim’s photo of Carol Hansen’s chicken. Keep it in the family, right? The truck is also from a Tim Young photo. Thanks Tim. Hope you all are staying healthy. I’m quarantined because my partner is very sick since taking a flight😞. No temp yet🤞🤞. Hoping for the best here and for all of us❤️

Bonny: Here's mine, now finished.  Watercolor.

Tim: Hello my Alla Prima friends, I miss your pleasant friendship, but thankfully we have Facebook to help us get through the distance between us. I've posted a few paintings done in the last week or so. I hope to see you all this summer when this is done. And a few of you I will see at the next paint out. Stay well

Lisa: Cape Lookout

Jeffrey Scherer Isolation. Oil on panel.

Marti: Just drawing and soaking up this wonderful sun. Have you ever noticed after sitting in bright sun, looking at that white paper, then walking in the house everything has a dark green cast, and the light outside now has a marvelous magenta glow?!!! Or am I hallucinating!?? HA HA!

Nancy: First Plein Air day March 2020 1 block from home.

Kathy:"Best Day Ever" Watercolor 10.5 x 10.5 Stay well, all, and cherish your loved ones.

Kristina: Golden Bouquet the last painting I did in January for the Strada Challenge. I have been enjoying delving deep on the subject of flowrs for an upcoming show at Marily Affolter Gallery.
