Ok, I'm painting my fellow painting friend Michael Lindstrom from a photo reference (in-progress) and it's on my mind that painting with him and all my painting friends was/is always the best! During the week I experimented with an outdoor "makeshift" still life station and I revisited Powell Butte.

Mary McNeil: really the coast is “on my mind” but since I’m going over the mountain here is a 5x7 watercolor.

I know it could be a lot hotter but the 90’s is too hot for me unless I am in the shade standing in a cool mountain stream painting. 😀. 8x16 oil / Nice painting day, comfortably warm but not too warm. Enjoyed the day with Mike Porter and Brenda Boylan. Thanks to Brenda for some pointers, always helpful!

As far as color mixing, I’d say I think about the areas I want to have the cleanest purest color and that is where I have to keep a clean palette. The rest is a less saturated color and can use a palette of colors already there to create more harmony.
Tim Young: 8x10 acrylic ‘Blue’ / 12x16 oil on panel Columbia River
Nancy Zhang: “Summer Escape” at the Columbia Gorge. Recent plein air.
