This blog is for people in the Portland, Oregon area who draw or paint generally in one sitting and from direct observation, in "real time"*. (Alla Prima translates from Italian as "all at once"). At meetings we share paintings, news and information for plein air/alla prima painters in our region. All Copyright rules apply; Please ask permission before re-posting any content or photos. Send Plein air news to: allaprimaportland@gmail.com*Though the emphasis is on Alla Prima, we also make exceptions to include studio work and from reference paintings.

Statement

"Alla Prima Portland" has no preference as to style, materials used, or artistic interpretation. These are all personal choices that contribute to the unique expression of each artist while they paint ‘en plein air’ or in the studio. Likewise, we think honest work by novice or professional is equally valid. The challenges and rewards of plein air (and direct observation) painting are open to all. There are no dues.
