April 6 and 7 2013

Workshop Description:

Day one: will include working from photos, exploring the color temperature and nuances of the figure via simplified shapes, values and edges along with an informative demonstration and informal Q&A.

Day two: will consist of two 3-hour sessions working from a live model with individual instruction.

Topics covered will include: carving the form with light, brushwork handling, turning the form in space and editing detail to make a stronger statement.

Location:
 The workshop will be held at The Hansen Studio in the countryside near Oregon City.

Eric Bowman has been a full time professional artist for 30 years. His artwork has appeared on everything from the cover of TIME magazine to a United States postage stamp; from book covers to album covers, busboards to billboards his original works have garnered numerous awards and reside in many corporate collections including the offices of Major League Baseball, the Calgary Stampede and the NBA.  He recently finished a commission to paint the label for the official bourbon of the 2013 Kentucky Derby. 


Last year as a fine art painter, Eric won the Artist's Choice & Plein Air Magazine Awards at Sonoma Plein Air, took Second Place at Plein Air Easton and won Honorable Mention in Southwest Art Magazine's Artistic Excellence Competition. His original oil paintings are in private collections around the world, including Australia, Great Britain, Canada and Mexico.  Eric is an artist member of Oil Painters of America, a signature member of the American Impressionist Society and artist member of Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. He resides with his family in Tigard, Oregon.

"Iron Maiden" wins Southwest Art Magazine award

This painting, "Iron Maiden" (16x20) by Eric Bowman is featured in the new December issue of Southwest Art magazine as one of just 13 paintings chosen from over 2,200 entries in their "Artistic Excellence" competition for 2012. Congratulations, Eric! (And in additional news, Eric will give a figurative workshop through the Sedona Art Center at the Laguna College of Art in Laguna Beach, CA next year). Eric Bowman wins Top Honor at Sonoma Plein Air



Artists Choice Award: "Valle De la Luna" (16x20) by Eric Bowman


Congratulations to Eric Bowman who won the highest honor of Artist Choice at Sonoma Plein Air with his painting "Valle De la Luna".

Congratulations, also, to participating Oregon Plein Air artists Anton Pavlenko and Gene Constanza. Only 39 artists were chosen to compete in Sonoma from 124 applicants.
