This workshop is hosted by the Columbia Art Center in Hood River. It will be a 3-day outdoor workshop which focuses on how to intensify distance and atmosphere through the use of color to create the illusion of deep space. Emphasis will be placed upon painting in and around the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area and your subject matter will encompass both awesome views and intimate waterfalls. This workshop is for any outdoor painter who wants to improve their ability to paint rocks, trees, and moving water in one of the most unique and beautiful areas in the Pacific Northwest!

$550 for five days of instruction

This 5-day outdoor summer workshop is specifically tailored to the plein air enthusiast who lives in or around Portland, Oregon. (Out-of-towners are welcome too!) Your instruction will focus on how to improve your plein air skills without the extra cost of travel and lodging.

This class will focus on simplifying what we see, recognizing and mixing natural color, paint handling techniques, basic design and composition, how to control values, and work alla prima so as to complete a small painting within one session. 

All painting locations will be within an hour of downtown Portland, enabling you to daytrip to-and-from home each day.

One-day Demo & Workshop with Randall Sexton, Thursday September 6

Columbia Art Gallery Pacific Northwest Plein Air Competiton & Event Juror Randall Sexton is offering a one day workshop in Hood River to the Plein air participants as well as the general public. Sign up right away if you are interested-- the limit is 20 students.

Painting Coastal Color and Light with Eric Jacobsen and Michael Orwick

Come and join Eric and Michael for a unique and exciting plein-air
Workshop at Cannon Beach. This will be a 5-day workshop, June 18th through 22nd.

Eric and Michael will conduct this as a dual workshop and students
will benefit from expert advice and painting tips from each artist.
Along with daily painting demos and informal lectures there will be
group critiques and plenty of one-on-one teaching in the field.

This workshop is open to all levels(beginner through advanced). In it we will cover the history and philosophy of outdoor painting as well as palette choice, basic outdoor painting setup and Do's and Dont's for the outdoor painter. Both Eric and Michael have vast experience painting in the field and we look forward to helping you along your path as a plein-air painter of color and light!

Cost: $450(for 5 days) or $100/per day.

Hello Friends, Colleagues, and art loving Acquaintances;

I am writing to inform you of an upcoming plein air workshop I will be
conducting in Oregon. It will be in conjunction with my solo show at Art
on the Boulevard (www.artontheboulevard.org) in Vancouver, WA on Friday,
June 1st. It will be the only workshop I will be returning to Oregon to
teach this year.

The workshop will take place on June 2nd and 3rd and will be held on
beautiful Sauvie Island, near Portland, Oregon. Attached to this email is
