David Riedel demonstration at OSA, Thursday, April 11, 11am

David Riedel Presents: “Conveying the Big Idea in Still Life Painting” Thursday April 11th.

Doors Open 10am; Demo 11AM, Lunch Buffet 12:15PM

David Riedel will demonstrate his method of painting still life compositions that doesn’t copy objects, and instead conveys the larger shapes of color, light and shadow. This approach unifies a painting and can create a dynamic that transcends the look of inanimate objects on a table. “The still life presents an excellent challenge for painters wanting to sharpen their grasp of the basic elements of good painting: color, value, edges, paint quality,” he says. David’s works create an energetic tension that engages viewers on an emotional level. His deft use of chiaroscuro, light and rhythmic color, give his paintings a mysterious luminosity. David will expand on these points when he teaches a three day workshop at the Oregon Society of Artists June 21st thru 23rd. David is a nationally recognized master of chiaroscuro in oil painting and has won numerous awards for his work. He earned his BFA at Northern Arizona University and later studied at the Art Students League in New York City under David Leffel. David lived in Taos, NM, for many years before moving to Portland in 2006. Visit www.davidriedelfineart.com.
