Plein Air @ Washington County, presented by Sequoia Gallery + Studios, Hillsboro 2015


This year Sequoia Gallery + Studios in Hillsboro is proud to carry on the plein air tradition created eight years ago by the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council and the Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department. Last year this successful event was known as Hillsboro Plein Air Plus. We are re-launching in 2015 as Plein Air @ Washington County, presented by Sequoia Gallery + Studios, Hillsboro.

 Dates for the event are October 1 - 4, 2015. Registration will be at Sequoia Gallery: early registration June 1 - Sep 15, late registration Sep 16 - Oct 1st.

 The event will include all of Washington County during its three painting days, focusing events in and near Hillsboro. Our judging, by Yer Za Vue, and prize awards will occur on Oct 3, followed by an all day Show & Sale on Oct 4 of all judged works. The venue for Oct 3-4 is Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, Ghost Creek, in the upstairs event space. For updates and information please email pleinair.washingtoncounty2015@gmail.com.

Eric Jacobsen classes at Sequoia Gallery January-Feb 2014



Eric Jacobsen will be teaching at Sequoia Gallery in Hillsboro, OR in January and February.

January 17th 3pm-4:30pm-
Artist Demo
Come watch Eric work on a landscape painting in the studio! This will be a fun and informative session where you can observe Eric painting and hear about his approach to painting and witness his painting process. No registration required ($10)

January 18th and 19th 9am-4pm-
"Bringing the Outdoors In"
 Come join Eric for an indoor workshop that will cover the topic of landscape painting from photos and oil studies( please bring your own photos to work from). The emphasis will be on painting fresh and expressive landscapes in the studio.  ($200)

February 15th and 16th 9am-4pm-
Painting Expressive Still Life in Oil
Eric will supply the material and studio props and will talk about how to set up an interesting still life. Painters will be encouraged to use Composition, Value and Color Temperature to create lively and energetic still life paintings. ($200)

Painting this elusive and liquid element can be an artist's biggest challenge, but can also give you wonderful results. Learn the qualities of light on water, depth, transparency, reflections and all considerations when painting water.

Supplies? Bring your painting supplies and a drop cloth. 

Extra panels would be helpful 
Sketchbook for notes and sketches 
Portable easel 
Water bottle or something to drink for hydration. 
A sack lunch or lunch money. (great restaurants in walking distance too) 
Bring a selection of photos of water. (No photos from published works please, due to copyright issues.) I will also have an extensive collection of water photos to choose from.

Sequoia Gallery presents an Evening Out with Craig Srebnik (dinner and demonstration)


December 6th, Thursday - Sequoia Gallery presents: Dining & Art Talk - Evening Out With Artist Craig Srebnik

5:30 pm - Dinner meet up at the Venetian Restaurant, Hillsboro, eat, meet and mingle with award winning artist Craig Srebnik and fellow artists.
There is limited seating for dinner so reservations for dinner are necessary by calling Claudia at 503-648-5785. 

7:00 pm -  Demonstration of Painting Gardens in Oil -  Plus Peek at Paris Paintings (Event #39), Price is $10 for the demonstration.

At the Sequoia Gallery classroom Craig gives a peek at his recent plein air paintings of Paris. In addition he will demonstrate his theories and techniques in compositon and application that can be applied to any painting medium.  The demonstration will preview the workshop "Painting Gardens in Oil, (class #33) that will be held the following Saturday.
