Weekly Classes Resume October
Concepts, Principles & Techniques
All of courses are taught through Concepts (broad, abstract, overarching ideas that give structure, unity and purpose), Principles(the physics, biology and psychology of visual perception and responses) and Techniques (materials and methods). These are applied to all of the subjects offered as weekly classes and workshops.
By developing an understanding of the language and ideas of great art, rather than only mimicking the instructor or nature, each artist is able to cultivate their own artist voice in accordance with their unique sensibilities.

HACC ANNOUNCES HILLSBORO PLEIN AIR COMPETITION WINNERS

On September 14-15, the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council hosted its 6th Annual Hillsboro Plein Air Outdoor Painting Competition. Forty-one artists from across the region spent two days painting the natural landscapes of the Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve, the historic neighborhoods of Downtown Hillsboro, including the Saturday Farmers' Market, and the scenic views of Árdíri Winery & Vineyards.

Painters could also participate in a timed Figurative “Quick Draw” event on Saturday, where models from Lavender’s Green Historic Clothing staged an Edwardian-themed tableau vivant (“living picture”) on the East Lawn of the Walters Cultural Arts Center.

Artists competed for awards in three categories: Landscape, City Scene and Figurative “Quick Draw.” The event concluded with a reception and awards ceremony for artists and community members on the lawn of the Arts Center. Music was provided by the Glencoe High School Jazz Band. Food and wine were provided by Primrose & Tumbleweeds and Claeys Catering. Local professional plein air painter, Eric Jacobsen, served as judge for the three categories while artists, friends and community members voted for the winner of the Peoples’ Choice Award during the reception.

The winners were:
